Swimming pools provide exercise, entertainment for the kids and something to do on a rainy day in York.

And often, staying in a hotel with a pool does not cost much more than a hotel without a pool.

These are my top picks for York hotels with a pool.

York hotels with an indoor pool

York Marriott

The 4 star York Marriott Hotel has fantastic facilities for families, in a great location, and at an affordable price. It also offers free parking (rare for a York hotel).

The pool is indoor, heated and open daily from 6am -11pm. Towels are provided and there is also a whirlpool for guests.

Other leisure facilities include a gym, tennis courts and sauna and families can get lots of exercise in the hotel’s 5 acre gardens as well as on the nearby Knavesmire, a large green park.

Family en-suite rooms consist of two double beds and interconnecting rooms are also available.

The hotel is close to York Racecourse and is a 30 minute walk to York city centre but guests can catch a bus to the city centre from outside the hotel.

Novotel York

Highly rated by families, Novotel York is just outside the city walls overlooking the River Foss, on a quiet side street in a residential area.

It is near York Barbican and it is a flat, 10 minute walk into York city centre and it is very close to the city walls, one of the best free things to do in York. 

The indoor swimming pool is 40msq, heated and bathed in natural light.

This 4 star hotel has an on-site restaurant and bar, free WiFi and family rooms consisting of a Queen sized bed and sofa bed. Interconnecting rooms are also available.

The hotel offers parking on site from £14.00 per night.

Considering the location and facilities, this is one of the best value for money hotels in York with kids.

The Grand, York

One of the best luxury hotels in York, The Grand hotel, York is housed in an attractive Edwardian building tucked just inside the city walls.

This 5 star hotel is a 2 minute walk from York rail station and minutes over Lendal Bridge into York city centre.

The swimming pool at The Grand is luxuriously decorated in Grecian style (it is my favourite hotel pool in York) and is situated in the original vaults of the building which helps to create a feeling of calm and seclusion.

There is also an aromatic steam room, Nordic dry sauna and whirlpool. All the leisure facilities are limited to guests and members at weekends.

The Grand Hotel is set back from bars and restaurants (reveller noise will be limited) but as the hotel faces a busy road you may hear some traffic noise.

Families can enjoy themed afternoon teas or pre book a parent and child cooking lesson at the hotels on-site cookery school.

Family rooms sleep four with cots, extra beds and interconnecting rooms available. Kids will love their complementary Grand Hotel goody bag, soft toy and in room robe and slippers.

I love everything about The Grand Hotel York and think it is one of the most romantic hotels in York to stay in. Additionally, its Legacy Restaurant is one of the most romantic restaurants in York.

Station Rise, YO1 6GD

The Principal York

This is the hotel to choose if you are travelling to York by train as it’s the closest hotel to York train station. 

The heated pool is a great size and open 7 days a week. There is also a jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and fully equipped gym.

There aren’t dedicated family rooms at The Principal but rollaway beds and cots can be added to selected rooms at no extra charge.

This grand Victorian 155 room hotel has undergone a recent luxurious refurbishment, has an onsite bar and restaurant, a garden and fee paying on site parking.

Best Western Kilima Hotel

Situated on the busy Holgate Road, the Kilima Hotel is a 15 minute walk from York rail station though guests can catch buses to the station and city centre from outside the hotel.

The pool is a good size, indoor and heated.

Kids 12 and under stay for free with two paying adults and one child can eat breakfast for free with one paying adult. The hotel is a Victorian building of just 26 rooms so it has retained a homely, friendly feel.

The Mount Royale

An outdoor swimming pool in Yorkshire?

Don’t panic! The attractive outdoor pool at The Mount Royale is heated but is only open from May to September. The pool is in the ‘Old English Garden’ alongside a log cabin with a sauna and steam room.

The family run hotel sit at the top of The Mount, one of York’s oldest streets that culminates in Micklegate Bar, a 10 minute walk away. York rail station is 15 minutes on foot.

This hotel exudes old world charm with individually designed and furnished rooms. It is also a rare dog friendly hotel in York and even rarer, offers free parking!
