Park and Ride York
Park and Ride York is an established system of bus routes that provide quick, easy and cost effective travel to and from York city centre.
The scheme aims to reduce city centre traffic, congestion and pollution and has proved highly successful since its introduction.
York Park and Ride is the best way to get to and from York attractions if you are staying outside the York ring road (A1237). Plus, if you are visiting York at Christmas or during the peak summer season, I strongly recommend using the Park and Ride buses to access the city centre.
Park and Ride York information for visitors
If you haven’t used a Park and Ride before then it is what it sounds – you park your car in a large, secure car park and then pay to ride a direct, non stopping bus directly into York city centre.
The scheme covers the major access roads and York attractions and operates seven days a week. Buses run regularly throughout the day, usually around every 10 minutes. Journeys times are much quicker than local buses.
The electric buses are low floor with wheelchair access and have onboard spaces for wheelchair users and pushchairs. They also provide free WiFi. Well behaved dogs are allowed on the buses but not on the seats.
The car parks have a covered waiting area (some are indoors) and free public toilets.
Timetables vary but buses generally start between 6 am and 7 am running until 6pm or 8pm. Two routes run until 10pm.
Download a York Park and Ride map and route timetables before you travel.
Park and Ride York prices
A return ticket from a Park and Ride car park to York City Centre costs £3.30 for adults and £1.70 for children.
Up to three children under 16 travel for FREE with each paying adult so riding the York’s Park and Rides buses can be very cost effective for visiting York with kids.
Weekly and five day tickets are available for longer stays and helpfully, travel days can be non consecutive.
Bus tickets can be bought by card or cash on the bus from the bus driver but if you are using cash the exact amount is preferred.
You can also buy tickets in advance from the ticket office in each Park and Ride car park.
